We’re joining with other food charities and organisations to campaign for the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme to be reinstated as a matter of urgency.

In March, the scheme was withdrawn without consultation – depriving 2.3m children of a free piece of fruit or veg at break time.

Children have missed out on roughly 50 million portions of fruit and vegetables in June alone, at a time when nutrition is even more vital.

We know that children aren’t eating enough fruit and veg. Approximately 90 percent of children under the age of 10 are missing out on their five-a-day.

Along with The Soil Association’s Food for Life, School Food Matters, Sustain and Biteback 2030, we’ve written to the Government calling for the scheme to be reinstated as a matter of urgency. The full text of the letter is below.
