Hawksmoor Returns to Help Covid Response Lunch Box Scheme
Feb 15, 2021
Around 100 more families are set to receive weekly Lunch Boxes – each containing five day’s worth of lunches – thanks to the Hawksmoor restaurant joining our Covid response work.
During the first lockdown, Hawksmoor opened their kitchens to make meals for our Free School Meals hampers. Now, with demand increasing again, they’re stepping in to help out for a second time.
Around 20 members of staff are giving their time to make the meals for families in the Southwark area with children at Cobourg Primary School. The boxes are provided on top of the national Free School Meal Vouchers and are for families in need of extra support.
As well as fresh meals, the boxes include store cupboard essentials. This work has been made possible thanks to Impact on Urban Health which is funding produce, packaging and delivery.
With schools closing once again, demand has increased and thanks to the Hawksmoor – will now be able to help more families.
Naomi Duncan, our Chief Executive, said: “We can’t thank the Hawksmoor team enough for helping out again. They demonstrate the best of hospitality – doing what they can to help others even though their industry is being hit so hard by the pandemic. Not only have they donated to support our work financially, they are giving time and resources to make a difference.
“Like us, they believe the bar should be raised when it comes to supporting families living with food insecurity, we should not offer the bare minimum, we should be providing quality food and produce that is nourishing and enjoyable to eat.”
The school tells us that some families are really struggling financially, and these boxes are helping them to provide healthy, substantial meals for their children. Parents who are receiving the boxes have reported finding them a huge help and schools are pleased to be able to support their communities.
Thank you Hawksmoor and Impact on Urban Health for making it possible. If you would like to support our work, you can donate online – thank you!
With school meals back in the headlines and warnings about shrinking portion sizes, our Chief Executive, Naomi Duncan, calls for action to address the ongoing issues in school food.
