CHEF TRAINER ROLE

Chef Trainer Needed – Help us Fuel the Future

Chefs in Schools has an exciting opportunity for someone to share their passion for food with the next generation. We’re looking for a chef trainer to join our team, working directly for our co-founder Nicole Pisani, supporting new schools and chefs who join our movement.

The role is varied! You will be training new head chefs, sharing our vision for food and helping them get the rest of their team up to speed. You’ll be developing recipes that 1,000’s of kids will get to eat at school, creating and delivering exciting, innovative cooking lessons in schools.

Starting salary: £35,000. We offer Cycle to Work scheme, free weekly yoga class and three months full pay maternity leave.

Closing date: 4th February, with interviews to take place the Monday after.

About us:

We are a young, ambitious charity that has grown rapidly, launched in 2018 and now working with nearly 60 schools nationwide, reaching over 20,000 school children with better food and food education. Our passion for educating the next generation about food runs through everything we do. Kids are our future – let’s feed them like it.

We believe that all children deserve to learn about and eat real food. Our poor diets as a nation are causing long term ill-health. Children in the most deprived areas are growing up with the least access and exposure to fresh, nutritious food. Up to one in three children in these areas are leaving primary school obese. We concentrate our work in these areas, because we believe that access to a meaningful education about food shouldn’t be based on where you were born – it should be a universal right. Research shows if you improve school food, you improve health, attainment and wellbeing.

About the role:

This is a great opportunity for someone with passion for food, who believes that the next generation deserve to learn about food that is nutritious, exciting and fuels their learning. You will be passionate about food, like working with adults and children and above all, believe in our mission.

You would be joining a friendly, supportive team who work hard, but believe in a healthy work / life balance. This role is based around the school terms, so you will work 42 weeks per year, with most of the school holidays off. Because we only have term time to do our work in schools, holidays need to be booked outside of term time.

You’ll be the right person for this job if:

  • You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools
  • You want to work for, and help grow, a young, dynamic organisation
  • You have significant experience in food, working hands on as a chef in restaurants, catering and/or other food businesses
  • You have interest in sharing your skills with adults and children
  • You are interested in people (working in a small, supportive team)

As your work will involve working directly with children, you will need to undertake an enhanced criminal record check (DBS) and undertake safeguarding training.

Detail of the process:

We are following an anonymised recruitment process. You will be asked to answer a few questions related to the role. Your answers will be anonymised before the shortlisting panel review them, and candidates CVs will only be reviewed once we’ve shortlisted you and you’ve accepted an interview.
