The Challenge

In 2023 schools across London introduced universal free school meals. Hackney Council wanted to support school chefs across the borough to meet the challenge of not only providing more meals than ever before. They wanted to challenge chefs to feed every child in more educational and nutritious way than ever before. Our first programme was a roaring success.

Our Support

Our training package, the School Chef Educator course, combined practical in-kitchen training days with live zoom sessions and telephone support. Over 10 weeks school chefs, learned about nutrition, school food standards, kitchen skills, recipes, lowering waste and managing teams.

This project was part of a full programme of support across the borough.

The Result

15 Chefs that worked across 9 schools, had a blast – and learned a whole bunch of invaluable new skills… oh and some tasty new recipes too.

They are now all pushing the school food revolution forward in through the food and food education in their schools.
